City Council set for pivotal strong-mayor vote

Published: 1 years 334 days ago

Sacramento Bee:  Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson's 18-month odyssey to alter the way City Hall operates reaches a pivotal moment tonight.

That's when the council is scheduled to vote on whether to direct City Attorney Eileen Teichert to draft the language for a ballot measure that would give Johnson similar powers to those wielded by the mayors of Fresno, Los Angeles, Oakland and San Francisco.

Should Johnson persuade four of his council colleagues to vote with him tonight, Teichert would draft the language for a ballot measure over the next three weeks. She would come back to the council with that language July 13, and the council would vote that night on whether to place the measure on the Nov. 2 ballot.
