KCRA.com: Program cuts, leaving vacant job positions open and labor concessions are all part of a plan to tackle a $43 million Sacramento general fund shortfall, according to a proposed city budget released Friday.
Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson said Friday afternoon there also could be layoffs, but he did not know how many.
When pressed, Johnson said the cuts could be significant.
"I think it could be 100 to 200 jobs, maybe more. And don’t hold me to the number yet, you know, but you're talking about a couple hundred losing their jobs -- that is just not good for anyone," the mayor said.
The proposed 2010-2011 budget will be brought to the City Council on May 11, with the adoption of the final budget expected on June 22.
