Sacramento-area schools chosen for Kennedy Center arts program

Published: 2 years 24 days ago

Sacramento Bee:  Six local schools stand to benefit from Mayor Kevin Johnson's For Art's Sake program, a nearly yearlong initiative that seeks to raise the level of the arts in the city.

Today, at the B Street Theatre, Johnson will announce that the Sacramento City Unified and Twin Rivers Unified school districts have been chosen as the first districts in the country to participate in a pilot program run by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

That program, called Any Given Child, seeks to increase access to arts education in select school districts. Sacramento was chosen from among 30 cities nationwide as the first city to participate in that program.

In Sacramento City Unified, Washington and Father Keith B. Kenney elementary schools and Will C. Wood Middle School will participate. In the Twin Rivers district, Oakdale and Orchard Elementary schools have been selected along with Creative Connections Arts Academy.
