It's difficult to believe, but it has been 100 days since I've been sworn into office. With your help, I've been able to deliver on what I promised during the campaign. We've put more police on the streets, brought accountability and transparency to city government, used the bully pulpit to promote our city, and focused like a laser beam on economic development and education.
In addition, we've launched an unprecedented effort to recruit volunteers to help our city's most vulnerable citizens, attracted nationally recognized leaders to our community, and are creating jobs (and vibrancy!) downtown. We fought back an attempt to "brown out" more of our fire stations and are attacking our budget crisis head-on.
In addition, we've made city government accessible to you, holding problem-solving "office hours" in your community, as well as holding town hall meetings so you can share your views. (Watch a news report on my first 100 days).
But bringing change to City Hall sometimes hasn't been easy. That's why I am so appreciative of your support. I have enormous faith in the citizens of our community who aren't afraid to challenge the status quo. I'm convinced that we are making substantial progress -- even in these difficult economic times -- to make Sacramento a city that works for all of us.
Thank you for all you are doing to help our community move to the next level. And I promise the next 100 days will be as exciting for our city as the last!
