Nothing makes me prouder than to see the soaring achievement levels at Sacramento High School. Just-released test scores have pushed the school's Academic Performance Index (API) from 636 during the 2006-2007 school year to 719 last school year. "It was one of those times you sit back in your chair and reflect on how far you've come.") That's exactly how I feel.
Here's more from the News10 site: "The school has come a long way since Kevin Johnson's St. Hope Corporation converted the school to a charter school in 2003. Back then the school's API was a dismal 554 and there was talk that poor student performance could result in the school being taken over by the state.
Manansala said black student test scores increased by 60 percent to 710. Latino student scores jumped 49 percent to 706.
Students at the school were thrilled.
"I know that if we got this far and I'm only a sophomore -- then by the time I'm a senior, we'll get so much higher. The sky is the limit," said sophomore Dennis Johnson.
School officials also pointed out that the 83-point gain means the school increased test scores more than any other California high school with more than 300 students.'
