It's only a matter of days before another major chapter in American history is written when President-elect Barack Obama is sworn in. I will be privileged to be there to witness this historic event.
Our new president-to-be has signaled that investing in our people and our communities will be his top priority. I agree. It's time to provide the same kind of support to K Street here in Sacramento as we have to Wall Street.
I will be joining mayors from across the nation at the U.S. Conference of Mayors conference in the nation's capitol soon, and I will be working on a bipartisan basis with Senators Feinstein and Boxer and Members of Congress Doris Matsui and Dan Lungren to make sure that Sacramento gets its fair share of infrastructure funds.
This week I had the opportunity to join community groups on the steps of city hall to continue the push for federal funds for housing, health care, and environmental programs, as well as a list of infrastructure projects. See the video here.
With Sacramento families getting only 78 cents back for every tax dollar we send to Washington, it's time that D.C. help our community as we near 10 percent unemployment and continue to battle the foreclosure crisis.
