By Mayor Kevin Johnson
It’s not over.
While those who love business as usual may hope otherwise, our fight for reform is far from done.
Make no mistake: Tuesday night’s Council Meeting was a major setback. It should have been a historic moment – a time when we as a Council put politics aside and came together in a spirit of leadership and progress. Instead, we saw something far different: a fierce, unapologetic defense of the status quo at the expense of real reform and the voters’ right to vote.
Since Tuesday night, countless citizens have approached me to express their disappointment. I share their frustrations with City Hall. The lack of accountability. The lack of urgency. The sense that “everything is ok” when we face unprecedented challenges as a community.
Each of them has asked me a simple question: “What’s next?”
As an NBA player, I knew never to give up. Not until the final second ticked off the clock.
As your Mayor, I have the same mentality. I was elected to fight for real change, no matter how hard the status quo fights back.
Your vote matters. Your participation matters. And there’s still time on the clock.
Stay tuned.

You've always been able to run the floor when seconds count. Heart of a lion. True warrior of the people. What the current City Council absolutely does not realize Mr. Mayor, is that you have tens of thousands of people in this community just chompin' at the bit, ready to help you sort this out!!!!!
I would be very Surprised if the Current City Council does not become more open to the fact that you were elected as our Mayor for a reason. We believe in your leadership. It's time our elected City Council puts their faith in you as well.
At the very least, respect the fact that like them, the voters made a choice to put every one of you in that room for a reason. The expectation we have is that you work together on our behalf. Not just when our community demands it, but day in and day out. It is expected of our elected officials, or we'll find someone else who can meet our expectations.

I think that your comments at the 6-22 council meeting were disgraceful. How can you be so hungry for more power when you are so obviously poor at developing relationships with your council colleagues? I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt in order to let the voters decide on a new charter. But you lost my support by your ill-advised words and your vote to support the AZ boycott.

I am deeply disappointed, for reasons too numerous to mention, by the vote re: Arizona's SB 1070 That vote has soured me far more than can be imagined about the Sacramento City Council and everyone who voted to boycott Arizona.

I sat in with you Mayor Johson at the city council meeting and only left early to catch the last train which RT has scaled back in sevice.
I was shocked to learn the next day that the city council betrayed the public trust to allow for a public vote on the charter initiative. Prevent ing the people to vote is a blockage of the freedoms we are all bound to liberate.
and a referendum is the route that true freedom flows .This lets me know thata concensus of individuals who sit on city council acted irresponsibly to that end and could only be motivated by racism and/or protection of only the priviledged status Qou and in no way wish to share power with the people . I fully support your initiative because like a witch hunt we know who is trying to hold on to thier broom sticks now. Sorry for this bluntness but I can not help to see that many of those whom you had supported betrayed you .
You May use this blog comment to what ever end you like. It looks like the Good Ole' boy insider politics is still the reality in Sacramento and you just are not one of them.
and actually that's good to find out and I HOPE THE PEOPLE WILL VOTE THEM OUT TOO!!!!!!

As I watch the clash of law against violent drug cartels at our very border I can see no reason to support illegal migrant entry into the united states Only for humane purposes as refugees
however criminals are known to resist all challenges to the proliferation of criminal endeavors and may cloak themselves under the veil
for these reasons I support arizona's concerns about its borders safety and california 's remoteness in no way assures its peaceful slumber will not soon be disturbed . Anyone not having the vision to see this may soon be shocked
to learn that a war is brewing at our very borders and will cause quite an alarm . The inability to protect our on borders is a breach we cannot afford not to redress and the sanctity
of such is a boiling caulderon we all had better beware

Kevin did you even read the SB1070 Law?
What you need to do is first and foremost protect and defend the United States and its citizens. You also need to support your fellow Americans. Last I checked, Illegals are not Americans. You need to support Arizona. Your actions are disgraceful and UnAmerican. 70% of all Americans, White, Black, Asian, Latino, Aborginie you name it support Arizona. perhaps its time you jumped on board. I know you want your voting record to reflect your support of the illegals because you think Nobama will win the Amnesty case which means more votes for you. I have news for you...it wont happen. The law isn't about race, illegal is illegal and illegals are NOT protected under the U.S. Constitution.

When you change to start fighting for real opportunities for Americans and equal opportunity for us. Give opportunity to legal immigrants who want to be Americans and stop the flow of illegal immigrants who only come here for money and do not want to be Americans, who use identity theft and other means to take American jobs and liberties, then you will move forward.
