I really cherish heading out into our city’s neighborhoods to shake the hands of honest, hard-working Sacramentans. On Tuesday night I had the joy of being in the Fruitridge Manor neighborhood. For me, this is what campaigning is all about: talking to real folks about their concerns as well as their hopes for the community.
The Fruitridge Manor neighborhood has been a frequent problem spot for crime. And many of the residents I had the chance to speak with were similarly concerned about the crime problems happening in their neighborhood. In just a 3 month period this year more than 60 assaults, burglaries, and robberies occurred.
Since announcing my candidacy in March, I have visited more than 20,000 homes and over 40 neighborhoods. Many of those neighborhoods being hit hard by crime are similarly being hit by the housing crisis. On many occasions I pass by homes that are shuttered due to foreclosure. These disenfranchised citizens of our city want their neighborhoods, schools, and homes back. What they need, and are calling out for, is a city that works for everyone.
