They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Perhaps that’s why Mayor Fargo has tried to steal the Kevin Johnson campaign’s “Summer of Change” moniker in an email -- complete with 17 exclamation marks -- to her supporters today.
The Mayor’s big “change”? Downsizing her campaign headquarters.
One thing Mayor Fargo can’t change is her record:
- An explosion in crime – a 50 percent increase in violent crimes from 2001 to 2006 (Sacramento Bee, 7/16/08);
- Public safety cuts – Reviewing this year’s budget, Fire Chief Ray Jones says it is possible that some fire stations may not be staffed. Assistant City Manager Gus Vina says it is “inevitable” that city services will be affected (Sacramento Bee, 3/1/08);
- Broken promises about downtown redevelopment – “In 10 years, we’ll have the Downtown that will be the envy of everyone,” (Source: Sacramento State News, 10/10/2000);
- Being AWOL during key votes – Fargo missed the City Council’s most important meeting to discuss Sacramento’s worsening fiscal picture due to her extensive travel (Sacramento Bee, 1/23/08)
Yes, Mayor Fargo this will be a Summer of Change, from the White House right down to the Mayor’s Office.
